Currently planting and sowing in greenhouses is going full force, thus many questions occur about what you can and cannot grow under one roof. Some of the vegetables may be more capricious therefore you need to make sure in advance that your previously designed plan corresponds to the requirements of the plant.
Requirements for growing tomatoes
For a juicy harvest of tomatoes not only sunny and warm environment but also a well ventilated greenhouse filled with fresh air is necessary - conditions that other plants might not like. To grow tomatoes good ventilation is necessary both during day time and at night, however these conditions will not be suitable for cucumbers at all. If it is complicated to ensure equal conditions for several plants, choose the most necessary or the most easiest plant to grow. Cucumbers may get used to such conditions, but more sensitive plants, such as paprika, might not tolerate it. Tomatoes will become much more juicier if the greenhouse is regularly ventilated.
Special conditions for paprika
If you want to grow your own harvest of paprika, you must understand that paprika, contrary to tomatoes, requires a warm and windless place to grow. It is recommended to plant paprika on the sunniest side of the greenhouse or at the end of the greenhouse, however you must be sure that there is no draught. If you cannot avoid draught, you can cover stems in film thus providing ventilation to top of the plant and protecting the roots from wind. Also it is possible to create an intermediary wall from plastic film to create a zone with conditions more suitable for paprika growth.
Favourable conditions for cucumbers
As it is known to most, cucumbers love warmth and humidity, however they are capable of getting used to different conditions as well. Unlike paprika, cucumbers are capable to live in a single greenhouse with tomatoes as long as their breeds are adjusted for it. In such case it is best to use cucumber breeds that are self-pollinating and suited for growing in a field or in a greenhouse. Such breeds will better adjust to growing conditions and will produce cucumbers longer. In growing cucumbers it is necessary to know that cucumbers should not be placed across the ventilation windows since cucumbers must be protected from wind.
Presence of greens
It turns out that basil not only tastes great with tomatoes, but this combination is also very good in greenhouses. Basil has positive effect on tomato health during growth due to the fact that the basil leafs create a favourable micro-climate and prevent negative effect of micro-organisms on the tomato leafs. Besides, it is also recommended to grow basil in greenhouses together with cucumbers and paprika. Salads are also worth mentioning and should be grown in rows along the side of the greenhouse.
